You’d be shocked to learn how many people come to our events thinking that they can’t paint. At some point in life they’ve been taught that they “aren’t creative.”. Maybe their school art teacher told them ‘You can’t paint’. Or their parents critiqued their childhood paintings, and left them never wanting to pick up a paint brush again.
Founder of The Paint Republic, Lindsay Burgess, was once banned from the art department, when she was at school, for being too sociable!
We will never ban you from the classroom, or tell you to stop talking, or tell you that your painting is bad or wrong. We will never shout at you, or tell you off!
We love a creative rebel – you can paint whatever you want at our events. We believe that there is no right or wrong way to paint. You’re the master of your own canvas – paint whatever you feel like painting!
Here are 4 common misconceptions you might have about painting:
1 – “YOU CAN’T PAINT”
The Paint Republic firmly believe that EVERYONE can paint. Yes, everyone! That includes you. We love it when someone says to us that they can’t paint – because we will prove to them that they can. In just 2 hours we will take you from blank canvas to masterpiece with the help of a professional artist host. Our events are perfect for total beginners that haven’t painted since school (or at all)! No experience is necessary, and we provide all the materials. You just need to bring an open mind, and you’ll have painted your own masterpiece in no time.
Remember – there is no such word as “can’t.”

2 – “YOU’RE USING THE WRONG TOOL”
Anything’s a tool if you’re brave enough. Experiment with all the brushes in your pot, there’s no need to do exactly as the teacher tells you. Play around with the tools, use your fingers, experiment with the kitchen roll. The possibilities are endless when you use the “wrong tool”.

3 – “THAT’S THE WRONG COLOUR”
Do you remember learning about the colour wheel, and colour theory in school? There were all these rules on what colours should go together. We say THROW THE RULE BOOK OUT THE WINDOW!!! If you want to paint your background red, or create a black and white canvas then we say DO IT! At our classes you can mix your own unique colours to personalise your masterpiece. 4- “YOU SHOULD GIVE UP ON ART”
Don’t give up! Pablo Picasso once said “All children are born artists, the problem is to remain an artist as we grow up.” Keep your creative fire burning, and keep on painting. There’s no right or wrong way to paint. Don’t let critics, and naysayers spoil your fun. Keep on painting! You’ve got this.
